The Founder’s Vision
Joachim Wester started working on this technology in 2006 with the singular vision that Enterprise Software should and could be transformed. By developing new, groundbreaking technology, the business model could also be changed, following the motto “Technology comes before the Revolution.”
“Technology comes before the Revolution.”
Using proceeds from the AL-Data IPO, he funded the first several years of R&D.
In 2013, he released VMDBMS™ 1.0 and 2.0, which has since been in full production at Gekås Ullared, Europe’s largest retail site.
In 2014, the research project transformed into the commercial company Starcounter. Joachim invited the first outside investors and hired an external CEO who recruited and built the initial management team.
In 2015, Industrifonden, a leading Swedish venture firm, joined as the first institutional investor, complementing the angel and individual investors. This investment was the start of Starcounter as a fully commercial company.
A management team has since been hired, and all hold equity or options in the company. Joachim now holds the role of Chief R&D Visionary and continues to be hands-on active in developing Starcounter’s technology and vision.
